Dr. A.A. Taliaferro and a group of individuals who were interested in establishing a school for
children that would embody the educational principles of Dr. Maria Montessori founded Alcuin
School in 1964. Generous individuals in the Dallas community funded the original school and
the training of the guides.
The school’s first permanent home was located on Noel Road and housed 68 children. The
school remained at that location for 19 years, growing to the point of needing portable
buildings in order to serve the students enrolled. The move to the present campus occurred
in 1983 as the student population continued to grow. The continued focus on growth and
improvement helped to realize the dream of meeting the needs of an expanding student
population through the purchase of additional property and the construction of new facilities.
Even today, Alcuin School continues to strive to meet the needs of the community through
careful planning in programs and facilities.
The foundation provided by Dr. Montessori’s teachings has proven to be a solid one, and
Alcuin School continues to flourish. It has grown from two classrooms to an impressive facility
housing over 100 faculty/staff members and close to 600 students. The dedication of faculty,
staff, administrators, parents and friends resulted in an excellent beginning for Alcuin School,
and that same dedication continues today.
