1. Written Records
A. MYP Year 1 – 6th Level
Reports are given to parents at each of the biannual conferences. These reports include a narrative and checklist. Student rubric scores across subjects are communicated. Social and personal development and student work habits are also reported.
B. MYP Years 2 and 3 – 7th and 8th Levels
Reports are emailed to the parents at midterm and at the end of each semester. Scores are reported on a scale of 1-7, using the grade boundaries presented for the International Baccalaureate® Middle Years Program to guide this process. Faculty members base their scores on the student’s growth in understanding as demonstrated by the student’s performance on assessment tasks graded with rubrics across four criteria. Midterm scores are accompanied by narrative descriptions of student performance. In addition, feedback is given on the student’s Approaches to Learning. A final score report will be emailed following end of each semester.
C. MYP Years 4 and 5 – 9th and 10th Levels
Progress reports including subject scores, student reflections and faculty member responses will be shared with parents at the student-led conference each mid-term. Scores are reported on a scale of 1-7, using the grade boundaries presented for the International Baccalaureate® Middle Years Program to guide this process. Faculty members base their scores on the student’s growth in understanding as demonstrated by the student’s performance on assessment tasks graded with rubrics. Midterm scores are accompanied by narrative description of student performance. End of semester reports will be in transcript style.
D. DP Years – 11th and 12th Levels
International Baccalaureate ® Diploma Program progress is guided by the IB Course Guides and Alcuin’s Upper School faculty member-developed syllabi. Faculty members base their score on the student’s growth in understanding as demonstrated by the student’s performance on assessment tasks graded with rubrics. Scores are accompanied by narrative description of student performance.
2. Conferences
Formal conferences are held twice each year, one in the fall and one in the spring for all students. During individual conferences, parents, guides/faculty members, and the students discuss all aspects of a child’s development. The purpose of these meetings is not just to review the Conference Report, but also to exchange information necessary to facilitate proper guidance of the student. Parents will be given a written report that reviews the holistic development of the student.
The meetings encourage students to set goals for improvement and development in the individual subjects as well as in the habits of mind and effort. Parents are urged to attend conferences. Conferences are scheduled and communicated by the respective guide/faculty member or Division Head.
3. Matriculation to Upper School
Matriculation to Upper School is contingent upon Middle School students passing 75% of their courses. Any Middle School student failing more than two (2) courses will be unable to matriculate into Alcuin Upper School. (Any student who fails a course will be expected to complete credit recovery to demonstrate mastery before receiving a mark/grade.)
