Booster Seat Policy – The State of Texas requires all children aged 4 years to 8 years to ride in an appropriate car seat or booster seat, unless they are 4’ 9” tall. For school functions where Alcuin School students will be in a motor vehicle, they are to be properly restrained in an appropriate car seat or booster seat.
Parent Drivers - Parents may be requested by a guide/faculty member or the room parent to drive the students on field trips or “going outs.” Before parents may drive, they must complete a Background Check form and turn it in to the Front Office 7 – 10 days in advance of the scheduled outing. The Advancement Office will notify you when you are cleared at which time you will need to provide a copy of your driver’s license and proof of car insurance. This all must be completed 48 hours in advance of the scheduled class outing.
Liability - Parents need to be aware that the school’s insurance policies do not cover damage to personal vehicles when those vehicles are used on school business or school sponsored functions such as a going out. Each parent’s personal liability policy will be the only available coverage for damage to personal vehicles and will be the primary coverage for any liability claims.
Please note: Staff members may not use their personal cars to transport students.
Student Drivers - Driving and parking on Alcuin's campus is a privilege, not a right. We expect all student drivers to obey all rules of the road, in order to ensure the safety of other drivers, our students, and pedestrians at all times.
There are limited spaces on Alcuin's campus for student drivers. Each year, seniors will be given first choice, followed by juniors, then sophomores, space permitting. In order to park on campus, student and his/her parents must agree to adhere to the Student Transportation/Parking Policy and Rules, complete a parking application, and once a $175 fee and proof of car insurance and a valid Driver's License is submitted to the Advancement Office, a parking permit will be submitted.
Student drivers may only enter the campus from Preston Road and exit the campus towards Preston Road. Student drivers may not leave campus at any time during the day unless they have an appointment. In such case, a note, signed by a parent or legal guardian, must be presented to their Division head and the Front Office notifying the School of the time and type of appointment. The only exception to this is for seniors who have off-campus lunch privilege.
In the event of a violation of the Student Transportation/Parking Policy and Rules, the student driver will be reported to the Dean of Students for disciplinary action. After three violations, the student driver’s privilege of driving will be suspended for six (6) months, or the remainder of the school year, whichever comes first.
Bus Transportation - The school provides buses for transportation of students during the school day. The driver is responsible for student safety and may assign seating or direct the student in any reasonable manner to maintain that safety.
The following behaviors are expected of all students:
- Remain seated until the bus is completely stopped before standing.
- Immediately be seated.
- Wearing of seatbelt at all times on the School buses is required.
- Seatbelts must remain buckled until the buses reach their final destination and come to a complete stop.
- Remain seated while the bus is in motion.
- Keep heads, hands, arms, and legs inside the bus at all times.
- No littering in the bus or throwing anything from the bus.
- No eating or drinking beverages on the bus without permission.
- Do not tamper with the bus or any of its equipment.
- Keep the center aisle clear of bags, legs, etc.
