Educational Background and Training: Toddler, Primary, and Lower Elementary guides
must hold an AMI diploma. Upper Elementary guides must hold an AMI or AMS diploma.
Primary, Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary, Middle School and Upper School
guides/faculty and specialists hold the minimum of a bachelor’s degree with concentration in
the area of their specialty. All senior administrators are expected to have a master’s degree
or be in the process of obtaining one.
Professional Development: Faculty and staff are expected to complete a minimum of 15
hours of professional development each year. This may include attendance at national or
local conferences, university courses, observations of other classrooms or in-service work
sponsored by Alcuin School. The School supports the ongoing professional development of
its faculty by providing both funds and release time to enable guides/faculty to participate.
Faculty Change: The current median tenure for Alcuin School guides/faculty is 14 years. Many guides/faculty come to Alcuin School with years of experience. At the same time, turnover is inevitable from year to year. Changes in faculty for the coming school year will be formally announced during the summer.
