Elementary students must use a school phone, with permission, during school and after-school activities.
Middle School students may bring cell phones to School but must ensure that they are turned off and put in their locker (not on their person or in their backpack). Middle School students should also go their advisor or a teacher for the need to use the phone during the school day, and make plans to use the School phones for these calls. Students may begin to use their cell phones once they are on the carpool bench at the end of the school day.
Upper School students may keep their cell phones with them during the school day. They may use their phones during free time prior to class, during lunch and after school. Permission is necessary to use their cell phone during class, study hall or DP seminar.
For Middle School and Upper School students, cell phones can be used only with permission during after school activities. Students may not use cell phones and other electronics in any way that is harassing or disruptive to the educational environment, including making threats, using camera phones to take pictures, record movies, send text messages, or in ways that would otherwise violate a School rule. The use of cell phones, iPads and/or tablets during school trips will be determined by the Division Head and communicated to both parents and students appropriately.
Students may not bring other electronics to School, including games, radios, music players, smart watches, readers or other personal electronics, etc. unless they are for educational purposes and approved by the Division Head. Students who violate this policy will have their electronics confiscated. Parents will be required to come to the Head of School office to pick up confiscated items. Students will also be subject to disciplinary procedures for repeated violation of this policy. Any personal device brought onto campus with or without permission is subject to search. The School is not responsible for lost or stolen items (see AUP Policy below).
